One Week to go

The April 18 Round Rock ISD Celebration of Families will include a Wellness Challenge component that will challenge kids and parents to be spirited, to be active and to attend the event for a chance to win up to $1,000 for their elementary or middle school.
Attendees will be given a Wellness Passport at the Celebration of Families, hosted at Round Rock High School, 201 Deep Wood Drive, where they will be asked to identify the elementary or middle school they represent. Participants in the challenge will then be tasked with being active at as many of the event’s over 40 workshops, activities and booths, earning a participating sticker at each throughout the event, being held between 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
“It’s important for us to host a world class event for our families and community, and this is a great way to encourage participation,” said RRISD Associate Director of Communications and event co-planner Corey Ryan. “With our outstanding business partners sponsoring the event, we were able to fund activities and pay for the wellness incentive program for two middle and two elementary schools, totaling $3,000 for campus wellness programs.”
Activities being hosted at the event include bubble soccer, a Camp Gladiator obstacle course, kids fun run, Zumba, a Microsoft demo of Xbox Fitness games and the Microsoft Band powered by Microsoft Health, American Heart Association Jump Rope Challenge and a rock wall.
Parents and students will have an opportunity to attend several breakout sessions inside RRHS on an array of topics, including
  • Readers Today…Leaders Tomorrow,
  • SAT/ACT Challenge by Princeton Review,
  • Your Child’s Math in the 21st Century, C.A.T.C.H,
  • The Track to College – All Aboard! by Princeton Review,
  • An Introduction to Practical Self Protection and Self Awareness by Premier Martial Arts,
  • Community Police/Child ID Card by Round Rock Police Department,
  • Budgeting Basics for Parents and Students by the United Way,
  • Navigating House Bill 5 Graduation Requirements,
  • Family Friendly Healthy Snacks, and
  • Teens & Technology – What Parents Should Know.
“We are excited to offer so many great resources for our families,” Executive Director of State and Federal Programs Laura Segers said. “It is our belief that when parents, students and educators can work together to accomplish a shared vision for their child’s success, it creates a great situation. We are excited for April 18 and hope to serve a lot of families.”
The Celebration of Families starts with a 5K run with registration at 7:30 a.m. and run start at 8 a.m. The workshops for parents and students start at 9 a.m. and the Wellness Fair from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.Lunch will be provided starting at 11:30 a.m. and the second round of workshops will be from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
