What is Celebration of Families?

The celebration is hosted by Round Rock ISD and is designed to strengthen relationships with the community by providing resources, education and avenues to expand learning. Families, friends, educators and community members are welcome - there will be something for everyone.
“The purpose and mission of this event is to empower, engage and educate students, parents and community members through participation in workshops and family interactive events aimed at strengthening avenues to career and college readiness,” said Laura Segers, Director of State and Federal Programs.

The conference is divided into three strands: Parental Engagement for Fathers, College and Career Readiness and Family Engagement. Eric Snow, Executive Director of Watch D.O.G.S., Kevin Karschnik and Russ Peterson, Jr. from iSpeak and John Robinson, Director of Education & Youth Development, Houston Area Urban League and Executive Consultant with Scholastic will lead the keynote strands. The conference will also offer accompanying break-out sessions, RRISD entertainment, dancers from The Love of China, bicycle helmet fittings and giveaways from Seton NW, Technology Playground support, Princeton Review ACT/SAT prep, health screenings, TAKE10 CPR, Camp Gladiator fitness stations, free breakfast from Snappy Snacks and lunch provided by Schlotzsky’s!

Childcare is available on-site by the YMCA and pre-registration is recommended.

WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads OGreat Students)
"a one-of-a-kind school based father involvement program that works to support education and safety"

WATCH D.O.G.S. ® is the innovative father involvement program that was featured on ABC’s World News Tonight with Charlie Gibson during their “Spirit of America” segment on November 17, 2008, on NBC’s Nightly News with Brian Williams on September 12, 2012 and on NBC’s Today Show which aired on February 11, 2013.

Program Description:
WATCH D.O.G.S. ® (Dads Of Great Students) is an innovative program focusing on education and safety in our children’s schools by using the positive influence of fathers and father-figures for a two-fold purpose: (1) to provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their very presence that education is important, and (2) to provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying. Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers and uncles are asked to spend at least one day at their student’s school volunteering. They will support the school through monitoring the school property, working one-on-one or in small groups, reading, flashcards, homework, sports referees, listening ears, or for whatever needs to be done to plant seeds of
success in the lives of the students.
